One of the things I’ve been doing in my spare time is creating three documents. These are:
Colonial Gothic Complete Meta-Plot & Lore Bible
Hell Hath No Fury: Hidden Threads and Foreshadowing
Hell Hath No Fury: Plot Analysis of Published Versions
To give you an idea of how large each document is, here are the page counts starting from the top:
60 pages
Around 100 pages
Around 84 pages
I’m working on this in my free time, mainly on days I don’t feel like writing or when I need a break from working on the final touches on the pre-final edit on the d20 version.
If you ask me how much I’ve written down, I can honestly say about 90% of the meta-plot is in my head, and probably 70% of the hidden threads and foreshadowing as well. The plot analysis is stored in two notebooks and is something I worked on while recovering. This analysis covers all versions of the original Flames of Freedom campaign, not the licensed RPG. It includes everything that’s been written for the game, except for licensed titles.
So why do this? Next year will be the 20th Anniversary of the game (as well as Rogue Games). It helps to keep everything written down, and when I print these out for easy reference, they give me an overview.
Also, my goal is to bring new writers on, and if I do, I need to make sure the plot is kept in mind. Those who sign on need to know what the heck is going on—how the events started, how they progress, who the key players are.
Who is at the heart of all of this.
That one is going to be a jaw-dropper. I never brag about anything. I will with this: you have no idea what sits at the heart of all of this.
Now it is back to work on finishing up the fixes to the d20 Rulebook.
